Breaking: This Twins trade idea from a former GM finally doesn’t sound insane

Miami Marlins v Washington Nationals

The Major League Baseball Trade Deadline season is upon us, and confirmation of that has been provided by former MLB general manager Jim Bowden.

Now writing for The Athletic, Bowden uses the deadline season to prove why he is no longer employed by any team. He’s wasted no time this season, suggesting a couple of Sandy Alcantara trade ideas that makes very little sense for the teams involved.

However, even a broken clock is right twice a day, and Bowden recently proposed a Minnesota Twins trade that does have logic behind it.

While running through trade ideas for the teams involved in the American League Wild-Card race, Bowden has the Twins landing Miami Marlins outfielder Jesús Sánchez in exchange for left-handed pitching prospect Dasan Hill.

While defending the trade, Bowden also may have spoiled the plans for the Twins ahead of the deadline. Bowden reports that the Twins haven’t been shy about the fact that they are looking for a left-handed hitting outfielder ahead of the deadline.

Sánchez would certainly check that box.

Former MLB GM finally cooks up a Twins trade idea that isn’t ridiculous

Under team control until 2028, Sánchez is slashing .246/.318/.403 with 7 home runs through his first 214 plate appearances this season.

For a Twins team that is only sitting 2 games out of the final Wild-Card spot in the American League, a small buy for a hitter like Sánchez would likely be aligned with what the front office is looking to do ahead of the deadline.

That said, it would be curious to know when Bowden got this intel on what the Twins are looking for ahead of the deadline.

Between the injuries within their starting rotation and Royce Lewis going down with another hamstring strain, the need for a starting pitcher and third baseman may take precedent over the search for a left-handed hitting outfielder.

The Twins may need to make a move sooner instead of waiting until the deadline. Losers of 8 of their last 10 games, the Twins are quickly going in the wrong direction in the Wild-Card race. If things don’t change soon, they may become sellers at the deadline.
