On Monday, the Green Bay Packers signed former six-time NBA Finals MVP Michael Jordan…wait. Sorry about that. The Packers signed former Ohio State offensive lineman Michael Jordan to the practice squad.
Over the last several games, Green Bay hasn’t had an on-paper backup interior offensive lineman because the team has made rookie fifth-round pick Jacob Monk a healthy scratch while rookie first-round pick Jordan Morgan is on the injured reserve. When Sean Rhyan went down momentarily against the Detroit Lions, it was 6’7”, 322-pound tackle Kadeem Telfort — a 2023 undrafted free agent signing — who stepped in at right guard.
Jordan, who has played both guard and center, should add to the Packers’ depth at the position. Originally drafted in the fourth round back in 2019 by the Cincinnati Bengals, Jordan has made 40 starts in his career and most recently spent time with the New England Patriots, where he made 11 starts and played 685 offensive snaps during the 2024 regular season. Before his stint with the Patriots, Jordan spent the majority of the 2023 season on the Packers’ practice squad, meaning that he is familiar with head coach Matt LaFleur’s system.
Don’t be surprised if Jordan ends up suiting up for Green Bay down the stretch. With the Packers often going into gamedays with three backup tackles and no backup interior offensive linemen, there is certainly room for growth for a practice squad guard or center to earn some action on this team.
To make room for the addition of Jordan, the Packers released tackle Spencer Rolland, who was signed to the practice squad back in Week 7. Jordan will join fellow offensive linemen Donovan Jennings and Marquis Hayes on the practice squad. Hayes was only added to the team in Week 13, following stints with the Arizona Cardinals and Washington Commanders, while Jennings has been on the practice squad since August.
