FRISCO – Nope. Once again, they’re getting it wrong.

One day after a report suggests that the Dallas Cowboys and defensive star Micah Parsons are “making progress” – and CowboysCountry.com reporting that none of those involved can really confirm that there is much movement there – comes another report suggesting a major change in what Micah and owner Jerry Jones are planning on doing together.

What we have been reporting for months: Parsons is interested in signing a lengthy five-year deal at around $40 million per season … with the $200 million total helping to make him the highest-paid non-QB ever.

And Parsons has explained that to Jones.

And Jones has acknowledged publicly that the two sides are on the same page in many ways.

But all of that was two months ago. … and we do not sense that in any substantial way are coming any closer to terms a contract extension. Midway through June the two sides are at the same place they were months ago when the offseason was in its infancy stages.

Having said that, we also view a deal as inevitable.

So what has changed?

According to NFL Network, Micah Parsons could seek a shorter extension than the Cowboys traditionally prefer so he can return to the market at age 29 or 30 … and that the Cowboys might need to ‘shave a year or even two off’ of their offer to seal the deal.

We’re not sure why the Cowboys want to do that given that Micah wants to lock in long-term. And now we have a source explaining …

The Cowboys do not particularly want to do that.

Nor does Micah.

The report, a source close to the negotiations tells CowboysCountry.com, is “simply not true.”

To Parsons’ credit, he has not distanced himself from his team during this process, vowing to maintain a presence at training camp in Oxnard even if his deal isn’t done.
