The Red Sox are trading righthander Quinn Priester to the Brewers, ending Priester’s brief tenure in Boston after he struggled to crack Boston’s revamped rotation.

Boston will receive minor league outfielder Yophery Rodriguez — Milwaukee’s seventh-ranked prospect — a Competitive Balance Round A selection in the 2025 draft, and a player to be named later or cash considerations.

The Brewers’ selection acquired by the Red Sox in the coming draft is the 33rd overall pick.

Priester was acquired last July in a trade that sent Nick Yorke to Pittsburgh and made one appearance for the big-league club, throwing five innings of one-run ball against the Rays in late September.

The righthander had a fairly middling spring, posting a 4.82 ERA over four appearances. Priester allowed 14 hits and walked seven batters over 9 ⅓ innings in spring training, and with the ascension of Richard Fitts and Sean Newcomb within an strengthened Sox pitching staff, Priester became the odd man out.

Rodriguez is a 19-year-old outfielder playing in A-plus ball. He slashed .250/.343/.383 in a full season of single-A reps in 2024.
