Yankees catcher goes viral for his Instagram burrito ratings

New York Yankees catcher Austin Wells has a new side hustle, and it involves rating breakfast burritos in visiting clubhouses.

Wells launched an Instagram account dedicated solely to the quest of rating breakfast burritos on road trips this season. The mission statement, according to the account’s bio, is simple: “I am here to rank the Well(s) done road clubhouse breakfast burritos!”

Wells shared his first breakfast burrito rating on Friday, giving the Chorizo Breakfast Burrito at Pittsburgh’s PNC Park an impressive 87/100.

According to Wells, the inspiration is simple. He just likes breakfast burritos a lot.

“What inspired me? Well, I just really liked breakfast burritos,” Wells said, via Bryan Hoch of MLB.com. “We always have them everywhere we go on the road. I was like, ‘I’m just going to make a joke and make a little Instagram account, maybe have some teammates follow me and post something about it.’ Now it’s not a small thing anymore.”

As of Sunday evening, Wells’ account had racked up 59,000 followers on Instagram, and inspired a copycat account from Yankees broadcaster Michael Kay dedicated to rating press box chicken tenders.

The Yankees certainly have an interesting clubhouse. Last season they embraced the use of scented candles, and now they have a burrito aficionado putting visiting clubhouses to the test. They are certainly keeping things interesting.
