Philadelphia Phillies All-Star suffers injury scare during spring training game against Toronto Blue Jays

It’s not a sight Philadelphia Phillies fans wanted to see at the end of February.

Two-time National League MVP Bryce Harper left Wednesday’s spring training game against the Toronto Blue Jays after pitcher Richard Lovelady hit him with a 92 mph sinker on his right tricep. It was near the elbow he had surgically repaired following the 2022 season.

Manager Rob Thomson said Harper suffered a bruised right triceps and would not undergo an X-ray.

“We’re not overly concerned at all,” Thomson told reporters, including The Philadelphia Inquirer’s Lochlahn March.

Harper left after the game and didn’t talk to reporters. He’s expected to be fine. Harper has a scheduled day off Thursday.

It always leaves a pit in Phillies fans’ stomachs whenever they see Harper get hit by a pitch. In April 2021, Harper was hit in the face by a 97 mph fastball from St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Génesis Cabrera. Luckily, Harper didn’t suffer a serious injury.

Over a year later in June 2022, Harper suffered a broken left thumb when he was hit by a 97 mph fastball from San Diego Padres pitcher Blake Snell. Harper missed two months of the season before returning in late August.
