Earlier this offseason longtime New York Yankees star Gleyber Torres signed a one-year, $15 million deal to play for the Detroit Tigers.
The move from Torres came after Yankees general manager Brian Cashman claims Torres was unwilling to change positions after the game acquired Jazz Chisholm Jr.
“To be honest, I don’t know what’s going on there,” Torres told reporters this week. “I was believing everything was good, but I think not. I don’t want to give any comments, just turn the page. Whatever they have, they have. I’m just focused on my goals this year to get better and help my team.”
A new team wasn’t the only thing Torres changed this offseason. Like many former Yankees players, the second baseman couldn’t wait to get a bit lazy and grow out his beard – something strictly forbidden in the Yankees locker room.
“My wife really likes it. My son really likes it,” he told reporters showing off the new facial hair. “First time.”

Fans couldn’t get enough.
“The Yankees’ facial hair policy statistically subtracts an ungodly amount of aura,” one fan joked.
“Gained so much aura with a beard wow,” offered another.
“I’ll say it again. Every player that leaves the Yankees instantly gains +1000 aura,” added a third.
In his meeting with reporters, Torres admitted he watched the Tigers run to the postseason and that aided in his decision to sigh with Detroit.
“I’m just a simple guy. I want to give 100 percent every time I play, try to help the team win and do everything for the team,” Torres said. “What they did last year was amazing, and the Tigers showed the fans they can win. I just came here to help that mentality, the mentality of winning, first go to the postseason and then try to go to the World Series.”
Torres racked up back-to-back All-Star appearances in 2018 and 2019.
