Off the coast of Spain, a small island called El Hierro sits just South of Tenerife in the Atlantic Ocean. Here, rescuers at a non-profit called El Juaclo work tirelessly to keep abandoned animals off the streets. As the island’s only animal rescue, El Juaclo manages a high volume of calls.

When the Pennsylvania SPCA (PSPCA) recently received a call from local police alerting them to a trio of dogs housed in dismal conditions nearby, the shelter’s rescue team hastily headed to the scene.

Earlier this month, Uber driver Kaytleen Roberson was transporting a passenger through Lamar County, Mississippi, when she noticed a desperate face on the side of the road. Roberson and the passenger decided they had to stop. Pulling over, the pair locked eyes with a helpless puppy abandoned inside a small crate.
