The Senior Bowl announced on Wednesday that Green Bay Packers passing game coordinator Jason Vrable, who previously served as the team’s wide receiver coach from 2020 through 2023, will be the National Team’s offensive coordinator for the week of practice in Mobile, Alabama this year. Vrable is an interesting name, as he’s likely up for an offensive coordinator role under Matt LaFleur, who likes to hire in-house when possible, whenever current offensive coordinator Adam Stenavich ends up leaving for greener pastures.
Stenavich currently has an interview for the Chicago Bears’ head coaching position lined up, but there’s also a chance that LaFleur, who understands the value of being a play-caller, would let him walk for a “lateral” job that would see Stenavich earn a play-calling opportunity. Remember, LaFleur left the Los Angeles Rams as their offensive coordinator to call an offense of his own for the first time with the Tennessee Titans for one year before taking on the Packers’ head coaching gig.
At the Senior Bowl, Vrable will have the opportunity to work hands-on with some of the top draft prospects during a week of all-star game practices. Many times, teams whose coaches participate in the game end up falling in love with a couple of players they were able to coach throughout the week and end up selecting them on draft weekend.
If you’re wondering who is participating in the Senior Bowl this year, the following offensive players have accepted invites and are projected to be top 50 selections according to the early consensus draft board:
- #21 overall Jalen Milroe, QB, Alabama
- #29 Aireontae Ersery, OT Minnesota
- #32 Josh Conerly Jr., OT, Oregon
- #36 Jonah Savaiinaea, iOL, Arizona
- #40 Wyatt Milum, OT, West Virginia
- #41 Armand Membou, iOL, Missouri
- #50 Elic Ayomanor, WR, Stanford
So far, the players haven’t been divided into the National and American squads, so it’s uncertain which players will end up on the team that Vrable will be coaching.
