Last year, the Packers signed him to a four-year $48 million contract after releasing their previous back, Aaron Jones.
So far, Jacobs has helped boost an offense that also includes Jordan Love’s aerial attack.
Since joining Green Bay, he has achieved some of his best numbers since his 2022 season with the Las Vegas Raiders.
In 2024 with the Packers, Jacobs racked up 1,329 rushing yards, which was his second-best in his career, and his 15 touchdowns were his most so far. He averaged a career-high 9.5 yards per reception and scored his first receiving touchdown.
He also achieved his second-ever postseason appearance with the Packers, who are hoping to reach the playoffs once again and advance further than they did in their past two seasons.
Following Jacobs’ body of work with Green Bay last season, he’s moved up on ESPN’s top 10 running backs list for the 2025 season. According to Jeremy Fowler, Jacobs ranks sixth overall this season, up one spot from last year’s list.
Players ranked above him include: Christian McCaffrey from the 49ers, Bijan Robinson from the Falcons, Jahmyr Gibbs from the Lions, and Derrick Henry from the Ravens. Philadelphia Eagles star Saquon Barkley sits at the top spot after his impressive performance last season, capped off by a Super Bowl win.
ESPN’s list, which they compile for 11 different NFL positions, is created based on surveys given to league executives, coaches, and scouts.
The publication also shares a quote from one of these individuals for each player. For Jacobs, one high-ranking NFC personnel executive praised the Packers star.
“Elite balance, strength, vision, feet and determination with the ball in his hands. He catches it well. True difference-maker. And he plays every week. Availability. I tend to lean toward well-rounded backs that are elite runners and huge threats in the passing game, and Jacobs fits that bill,” the executive said.
In 2025, the Packers and their fans could expect to see more positive numbers from a healthy Jacobs. He participated in all 17 of Green Bay’s games last season following a quad injury that sidelined him for the final four games of the Raiders’ 2023 season.
It’s also worth noting that Jacobs was ranked as high as No. 3 on previous editions of ESPN’s running back list. He has yet to see a ranking below the top 10, demonstrating his continued success in the league.
