The Dallas Cowboys could have given Micah Parsons a contract extension months ago.
Now, they’re going to pay the price for their patience, again.
Parsons has watched multiple players set new records for the most lucrative deal for a non-quarterback in NFL history, and every time someone signs one of those deals, his asking price seems to go up.
Nevertheless, it seems like the Cowboys aren’t worried about that.
According to ESPN insider Jeremy Fowler, the Cowboys are confident in their ability to strike a deal with Parsons, knowing that they usually get them done late in the offseason.
“Yeah, so this is kind of a relaxed situation,” Fowler said. “When I talk to people involved, they’re like, it’s a lull in the summer right now. Not a lot going on. People are on vacation. Team officials are out on the beach somewhere. Once they reconvene for training camp, Dallas will probably lock in on this a little bit more. Typically, they do their deals late in the calendar, late August, early September. We’ve seen that with CeeDee Lamb, Dak Prescott, some of their other big deals. They are dedicated to doing this, through. This guy’s right in his prime, mid 20s, dangerous player. So he’s going to get a massive number. Just depends on when they do it. Shouldn’t be a problem.”
Pass rush market has exploded. By summer’s end, at least six of top-end rushers should or will have secured mega deal since March.

Truth be told, that approach has rarely been positive for Dallas.
The organization often has been forced to pay more money than it would have if it had given its stars a deal in a timely manner, not to mention all the outside noise, gossip, reports, and the fact that it infuriates players in the process.
Parsons has made it clear that he’s not going to take the field unless he gets an extension, and that fueled some speculation about a potential trade, though that doesn’t seem likely.
That means he seems to have all the leverage in this situation, and that’s never the position a team wants to be in if it wants to allocate resources wisely.
But that’s the way the Cowboys have conducted their business for years, and it’s not likely to change anytime soon.
