Breaking: Inside Why Packers’ Josh Jacobs May Be Even More Prolific in 2025

Josh Jacobs, Packers

Josh Jacobs couldn’t have made a stronger impression in his first season with the Green Bay Packers in 2024, but could be in for an even more prolific 2025 campaign.

Jacobs, 27, returned to peak form by rushing for a career-high 15 touchdowns while posting the second-highest yardage total of his career, with 1,329 yards and averaging 4.4 yards per carry.

When the regular season kicks off in September, Jacobs should be aided by Marshawn Lloyd returning and fully healthy ahead of his second NFL season, but there were some hidden metrics inside Jacobs’ stellar 2024 campaign that signal there may be even more upside for the former rushing champion, from here.

Why Josh Jacobs May Be About to Explode for the Packers

Even after the Packers added a potential field-stretcher on the perimeter at wide receiver and look to lean into added depth in the passing game, Jacobs and ground attack could remain a focal point of Green Bay’s offense this upcoming season.

And, as NFL Media’s Kevin Patra points out, last season Jacobs led all players across the NFL in yards negated by penalties and was second in touchdowns called back by flags, as well.

“Jacobs had a trove of yards negated by illegal offensive maneuvers,” Patra writes. “The Packers running back had 94 rushing yards negated by penalty, most in the NFL, and three touchdowns negated by penalty, tied for the most in the NFL.”

If the Packers can clean up the penalty flags, and continue to lean heavily on Jacobs as the bell-cow of the rushing offense, there’s a chance that by season’s end he’ll have rushed for even more yards and been a bigger factor in Green Bay’s success on offense than he was last season.
