PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh Steelers defensive tackle Keeanu Benton went down with an undisclosed lower-body injury against the Baltimore Ravens. Head coach Mike Tomlin said that Benton would need further evaluation after he went down and grabbed his knee. Benton had battled a calf injury for parts of the year, but this knee injury is something new entirely.
With the team already down backup starting nose tackle Montravius Adams, who has a torn meniscus but could return following the game against the Browns, Benton’s injury prognosis is more important than ever. Dean Lowry stepped in for him and would start in his absence.
After the game, Benton walked through the locker room without anything on his knee. He did even have a brace on and was not on crutches. While that is a good sign that the injury is likely not imminently major, with a short week, the Steelers could hold Benton out against the Browns out of precaution. It will be tough for him to play even if the injury is just mild, but with tough opponents coming up on the schedule, Benton’s injury looms large.
