Patriots reportedly bring back offensive lineman Yasir Durant following UFL stint

New England Patriots Sign Defenders OT Yasir Durant

The New England Patriots are bringing back one of their former offensive lineman as they have reportedly signed Yasir Durant to a one-year contract, according to multiple reports.

Durant was originally required by the Patriots back in 2021 as the team sent a seventh-round draft choice to the Kansas City Chiefs at the end of training camp. He went on to appear in seven games with one start at right tackle.

After being released by New England in 2022 following training camp, Durant spent time with the New Orleans Saints and Denver Broncos over the next two seasons. He then joined the United Football League and most recently started every game at left tackle en route to winning a championship with the DC Defenders.

The 6’6”, 330-pound Durant began his UFL career at guard before bumping back outside to tackle midway through 2023. He has held down the Defenders’ left tackle position since and was named to the All-UFL team after being perhaps league’s best offensive lineman this past season.

Back in New England, Durant will join a tackle depth chart that is led by No. 4 overall pick Will Campbell and veteran Morgan Moses. He will compete for a backup spot with Caedan Wallace, Vederian Lowe — who spent the spring limited as he rehabs from shoulder shoulder — Demontrey Jacobs, and rookie Marcus Bryant.

Durant could also provide depth at guard as the Patriots’ starting left guard position remains a question mark. The recent placement of veteran guard Wes Schweitzer on the reserve/retired list created an open spot for Durant on the team’s 90-man roster.
