Andy Robertson’s time at Liverpool seems to be approaching a critical juncture, with reports suggesting the Scotland captain is open to a move to Atletico Madrid.
As per Football Insider, the left-back is moving closer to an exit from Anfield, largely because of Liverpool’s interest in signing Bournemouth defender Milos Kerkez — a move that could significantly reduce Robertson’s role in the team.
Journalist Ben Jacobs has also indicated that Liverpool are nearing a deal for Kerkez, which is expected to be finalized within the next week.
This potential signing has paved the way for Robertson to possibly end his successful tenure at the club, where he has won the Premier League twice and the Champions League once.
Liverpool Have Reportedly Decided on Robertson’s Future
Former scout and transfer specialist Mick Brown weighed in on Robertson’s future, stating that the club seems ready to move on from the Scottish left-back.
“They’ve been actively looking for a replacement,” he told Football Insider.
“Kerkez is a high-quality player who will likely become a regular starter at Liverpool.”
Brown added that this situation creates an opening for Robertson to leave, noting that several Premier League clubs had considered signing him. However, Robertson is deeply connected to Liverpool and its fans, making a domestic transfer less likely.
“I’ve heard he prefers a move to Atletico Madrid,” Brown said. “There’s definite interest, and Liverpool appear open to letting him go — it’s definitely a situation to keep an eye on.”
A Remarkable Liverpool Career
Since arriving from Hull City in 2017 for around £8.5 million, Robertson has made 342 appearances, scored 11 goals, provided 67 assists, and collected nine major trophies. Though recent ankle injuries and reduced playing time — 29 Premier League starts last season — have affected his form, he remains a key figure.
Still, with Kerkez’s arrival seemingly imminent, both club and player are reportedly prepared for a potential departure — provided Atletico Madrid submits a serious offer.
