New England Patriots Linked To Huge Trade For $19.2 Million Weapon For Drake Maye

Patriots players have noticed Maye 'progressing' in training camp

The New England Patriots have put together a very aggressive 2025 NFL offseason. After a brutal 2024 campaign, the franchise decided to move on from head coach Jerod Mayo and replace him with Mike Vrabel. They also knew that major roster changes and additions were needed.

In NFL free agency, the Patriots were one of the most aggressive teams in the league.

Among the notable additions for New England were wide receiver Stefon Diggs, defensive tackle Milton Williams, offensive tackle Morgan Moses, cornerback Carlton Davis, linebacker Robert Spillane, and edge rusher Harold Landry. All of those players will be key additions to getting the team back on track.

All of that being said, the Patriots have been linked to a potential trade for another weapon for young franchise quarterback Drake Maye.

Sara Marshall of Musket Fire has suggested that the team could look to trade for New Orleans Saints wide receiver Chris Olave, especially after Derek Carr’s retirement.

“At just 24 years old, Olave is still on a rookie contract, meaning he is a bargain deal for the Patriots to take over, and because he’s so young, trading for him now will allow him and Maye to grow together for the foreseeable future, which is the ideal scenario for any young quarterback,” Marshall wrote.

“Of course, the main issue with this trade will be the asking price. Because Olave was the 11th overall pick in the 2022 Draft and has lived up to the hype, it’s fair to assume the Saints will want a first-round pick in return. The Patriots would have to decide if that’s worth giving up plus more, which could deter them from ultimately pulling the trigger. But if Vrabel wants to put the offense in the best position possible to succeed, then they might seriously consider it far more than they would previously.”

Olave would be a huge addition for the Patriots. He has flashed big-time playmaking potential and the ability to be a deep threat during his short career with the Saints.

During the 2024 NFL season with New Orleans, Olave racked up 32 catches for 400 yards and a touchdown in just eight games. He played in 16 games during the 2023 season, catching 87 passes for 1,123 yards and five touchdowns.
