She was so confused đ
When Cricketâs dad first adopted her, he was skeptical about pit bulls like so many others â but before long, heâd been converted into a full-blown pittie lover.
âShe LOVES going places and meeting people,â Bob Kuykendall, Cricketâs dad, told The Dodo. âShe is submissive to everything! Even cats and chickens. When we trail walk, if we pass someone and they avoid her or donât pet her, she stands and stares and whines, wondering why they didnât pet her. She really could be a poster dog for pits.â

While Cricket loves going most places, thereâs one place that makes her a little nervous: the vet. She spent a lot of time there as a puppy after breaking her leg, so sheâs gotten used to it a little, but itâs still not her favorite place. Sometimes she tries to like it, but mostly sheâd rather just be scared.
Recently, Cricket arrived at the vet office prepared to be nervous as usual when she realized something was different. The vet was suddenly someone she knew â very well, in fact.
âMy daughter just became a veterinarian this year, so it was our first visit to her,â Kuykendall said.
Cricket was so confused seeing her sister, Maddie, wearing the dreaded veterinarian outfit. Maddie bent down and called for Cricket, whose tail started wagging. She considered going over to say hi â then retreated back to Dad with her tail between her legs. Was this her sister or the vet or both?
Finally, Maddie came over to give Cricket love, and the sweet pup finally relaxed. It was definitely her sister, who she loved very much, even if she had gone to the âdark sideâ by becoming a veterinarian. Maybe, though, a beloved family member becoming a vet will be exactly whatâs needed to get Cricket to start liking the vet’s office.
âI donât know if her perception has totally changed,â Kuykendall said. âItâll be an ongoing thing, but I bet sheâll look around for my daughter in the future for some comfort.â
