Nervous Dog Meets Her New Vet And Can’t Believe It’s Someone She Knows

She was so confused 😂

When Cricket’s dad first adopted her, he was skeptical about pit bulls like so many others — but before long, he’d been converted into a full-blown pittie lover.

“She LOVES going places and meeting people,” Bob Kuykendall, Cricket’s dad, told The Dodo. “She is submissive to everything! Even cats and chickens. When we trail walk, if we pass someone and they avoid her or don’t pet her, she stands and stares and whines, wondering why they didn’t pet her. She really could be a poster dog for pits.”

While Cricket loves going most places, there’s one place that makes her a little nervous: the vet. She spent a lot of time there as a puppy after breaking her leg, so she’s gotten used to it a little, but it’s still not her favorite place. Sometimes she tries to like it, but mostly she’d rather just be scared.

Recently, Cricket arrived at the vet office prepared to be nervous as usual when she realized something was different. The vet was suddenly someone she knew — very well, in fact.

“My daughter just became a veterinarian this year, so it was our first visit to her,” Kuykendall said.

Cricket was so confused seeing her sister, Maddie, wearing the dreaded veterinarian outfit. Maddie bent down and called for Cricket, whose tail started wagging. She considered going over to say hi — then retreated back to Dad with her tail between her legs. Was this her sister or the vet or both?

Finally, Maddie came over to give Cricket love, and the sweet pup finally relaxed. It was definitely her sister, who she loved very much, even if she had gone to the “dark side” by becoming a veterinarian. Maybe, though, a beloved family member becoming a vet will be exactly what’s needed to get Cricket to start liking the vet’s office.

“I don’t know if her perception has totally changed,” Kuykendall said. “It’ll be an ongoing thing, but I bet she’ll look around for my daughter in the future for some comfort.”
