Once upon a time, Taylor Swift was a Met Gala mainstay.
She attended the iconic fashion event nearly every year from 2008 to 2016—for that last one, she was a co-chair—but hasn’t been back since.
Which leaves Swifties to wonder: Will Taylor Swift be at the 2025 Met Gala, or is her Met Gala era over for good?
And, if she does make her return to those famous red steps, will she be bringing Travis Kelce along with her? (Don’t ask me why, but something tells me Kelce would love to go to the Met Gala.)
So, what do we know?
True scholars of Swift-ian lore know that Swift’s last Met Gala, in 2016, was likely where she met her ex-boyfriend Joe Alwyn. At the time, Swift’s hair was bleached and Alwyn had a buzz cut, which aligns with the lyrics to Swift’s Reputation track, “Dress,” in which Swift sings, “Flashback to when you met me / Your buzz cut and my hair bleached.” Now, this hasn’t ever been confirmed as their first meeting, but we can make an educated guess.
After that, Swift always seemed to have scheduling conflicts that prevented her from getting to the Met Gala. In 2019 and 2021, for instance, she was in London and Ireland, respectively, with Alwyn.
Since Alwyn and Swift were famously private about their relationship, it makes sense that they wanted to avoid such a public red-carpet outing as a couple.

Now, Swift is way less hush-hush about her relationship with Kelce than she was with Alwyn, so some fans were hoping they’d make an appearance together at the Met Gala in 2024. Unfortunately, once again, Swift had scheduling conflicts.
That Monday, the superstar was busy preparing for the next leg of her Eras Tour, which is fair enough.
In 2025, though, everything is different.
There’s no Eras Tour to prep for and we know Swift lives at least part-time in New York City.
Still, she’s been laying low for the past few months. A source told Page Six in March, “Taylor is simply enjoying some alone time with Travis and being under the radar for a little bit.”
Obviously, we would all love a Taylor Swift Met Gala moment, especially if it gives her boyfriend an opportunity to dress up.
So, you know, fingers crossed.
