MLB/ Shohei Ohtani’s leadoff blast sparks Dodgers’ destruction of Marlins | The Asahi Shimbun: Breaking News, Japan News and Analysis

The Sports Report: Breaking down Shohei Ohtani's massive contract - Los Angeles Times

Shohei Ohtani opened with a home run, Teoscar Hernandez had four hits and four RBIs and the Los Angeles Dodgers increased their winning streak to four games with a 15-2 rout of the visiting Miami Marlins on Tuesday.

Hernandez and Freddie Freeman each had two doubles, Andy Pages homered and Tommy Edman drove in three runs for the Dodgers’ offense, which has come to life with 39 runs over the past four games.

Los Angeles reliever Matt Sauer (1-0), recalled from the minors earlier Tuesday, gave up one run in five innings en route to his first major league win. He allowed five hits and no walks while striking out four.

Dane Myers had three hits and an RBI and Ronny Simon also drove in a run for the Marlins. Sandy Alcantara (2-3) was rocked for seven runs on seven hits and five walks in 2 2/3 innings in his sixth start since returning from Tommy John surgery. He fanned two.

Miami has dropped four consecutive games, one off its season-worst streak.

The Marlins got off to a quick start against Dodgers rookie left-hander Jack Dreyer when Xavier Edwards led off with a triple and scored on a one-out Myers single.

Ohtani’s second leadoff home run of the season came on Alcantra’s first pitch, a 95.5 mph sinker. It was the seventh of the season for Ohtani and the 14th leadoff home run of his career.

Freeman and Hernandez had back-to-back doubles in the first to give the Dodgers the lead for good, and an Edman sacrifice fly added Los Angeles’ third run of the opening inning.

Another RBI double from Hernandez lifted the Dodgers’ lead to 4-1 in the second inning. Los Angeles tacked on three more in the third on an RBI single from Pages and a two-run single from Mookie Betts.

Will Smith had a two-run double in the sixth before Edman added his own two-run double. Pages homered in the eighth.

Alcantra had the worst start of his return as his ERA ballooned to 8.31. Twice this season the former National League Cy Young winner has yielded at least six runs in less than three innings.

Los Angeles utility man Enrique Hernandez pitched a scoreless ninth inning.
