Tyler Glasnow Injury Could Ignite Emergency Dodgers-Cardinals Trade

Dodgers' Tyler Glasnow (shoulder discomfort) leaves start after 1 inning | Reuters

The Los Angeles Dodgers have a pitching problem. It’s not because of a lack of depth because the Dodgers came into the season with more pitching depth than anybody else in the league. It’s an injury problem, and it’s so bad that it’s made their incredibly deep pitching staff look as shallow as anybody.

With pitchers like Blake Snell and Tony Gonsolin on the injured list, the Dodgers are struggling. To make matters worse, Tyler Glasnow left his most recent start with a shoulder injury. About 24 hours later, he was placed on the 15-day IL with a right shoulder injury.

The lack of healthy big league pitchers is a real issue for the Dodgers. The only solution with the current state of the Dodgers is a blockbuster trade for a reliable pitcher to bolster their rotation.

St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Erick Fedde would fit perfectly.

Fedde isn’t the flashiest name on the market, nor is he the best. But he eats innings, and he does it with solid production. The righty is signed for the rest of the season on a contract that will pay him less than $10 million, and it likely wouldn’t cost much prospect capital to acquire him.

His underlying metrics are concerning, as is his most recent start, but the righty has been consistently solid since he returned to the big leagues last season. Adding an average starter like Fedde would work wonders for a team with as much firepower as the Dodgers have.

When their rotation gets healthy, Fedde could slot into the bullpen as a long relief option, too.

It’s not flashy, but it’s a necessary move for the Dodgers to consider.
