2 offensive playmakers 49ers should roll the dice on during Day 3 of NFL Draft

The San Francisco 49ers have only selected defensive players with their first four picks in the 2025 NFL Draft. If the team decides to draft some offensive talent on Day 3 of the draft, there are two playmakers they should target.

It makes sense why the Niners would load up on defensive talent early in the draft. Their biggest free-agent departures were on defense, headlined by linebacker Dre Greenlaw signing with the Denver Broncos. San Francisco drafted a replacement for Greenlaw and also addressed the mass exodus on the defensive line by drafting an edge rusher and an interior lineman.

With basically all of their major defensive needs addressed, it would make sense for the Niners to turn to the offensive side of the ball on Day 3.

And there are a couple of names to watch here.

49ers can grab 2 offensive standouts on Day 3 of the draft

Running back may not seem like an area of huge need, especially with Christian McCaffrey on the mend from his injury-laden 2024 campaign. However, San Francisco burned through running backs last season, which is why it may not be the worst idea to draft a new one, especially after trading backup Jordan Mason.

Arizona State product Cam Skattebo is a very enticing running back who is still available. He had a phenomenal senior year for the Sun Devils in which he rushed for 1,711 yards and 21 touchdowns. McCaffrey is not going to play forever, and we know he has a lengthy injury history, so Skattebo could be a great fit, especially since the 49ers will not have selected him too early.

Wide receiver is another position that is not an absolute need for San Francisco, but the team could benefit from padding the depth a bit. Stanford wideout Elic Ayomanor would look good in a 49ers uniform.

Over the last two seasons, Ayomanor has 1,844 receiving yards and 12 touchdown catches. Ayomanor excels with the ball in his hands and is good at getting yards after the catch, which has historically been a strength in head coach Kyle Shanahan’s offenses. He could be a nice additional weapon for quarterback Brock Purdy to have.

The Niners seem likely to turn their gaze towards the offensive side of the ball on the final day of the draft. If they can get one or perhaps even both of these players, they should be pretty happy with themselves.
