Dodgers Could Pursue Marlins Ace to Help Add Depth to Starting Rotation

The Los Angeles Dodgers have made it known they are willing to sign the best players and spend more money than any other team in the major leagues. They proved that once again in the offseason when they added both Roki Sasaki and Blake Snell to their rotation.

With Sasaki looking only OK in his first five starts, Snell being expected to miss quite a bit of time with shoulder inflammation, and other pitchers in the rotation not picking up the slack, now would be a perfect time for Los Angeles to make a splash and acquire Miami Marlins ace Sandy Alcántara.

It’s all but certain that this will finally be the season in which the Marlins finally ship Alcántara elsewhere and it feels like the Dodgers would be the first team on the phone with the Marlins front office.

Alcántara missed all of last season while recovering from Tommy John surgery and things have not gone great for him in his first season back from injury.

He has an ERA of 6.56 and has allowed multiple runs in each of his first five starts. He went six innings in his most recent start on Wednesday, his longest outing of the year.

The start before that was his shortest, as he went just two innings and allowed six runs against the Philadelphia Phillies.

There is a possibility Alcantara is no longer the pitcher he once was, and the end of his career is nearing. There is another possibility that a change of scenery and going from a bottom-tier team to a World Series contender could rejuvenate him.

Whichever one it is, the Dodgers should take the chance on him, because if he does have anything left in the tank, he could greatly increase the chances of Los Angeles repeating as World Series champions.
