Our Cowboys trade-down puzzle-piece wish list mentions Denver’s Courtland Sutton, Detroit’s Jameson Williams and Pittsburgh’s George Pickens.
FRISCO – The Dallas Cowboys had just finished their annual pre-NFL Draft press conference inside The Star on Tuesday afternoon …
But team owner Jerry Jones – right before opting to grab a late lunch – grabbed a handful of local beat writers to offer some information about what was and is presently happening in the building right alongside NFL Draft prep.
Could Jerry just be “throwing chum in the water” or trying to “keep the Cowboys above the fold”?
Sure.
And as Fish has pointed out, “Jerry’s idea of ‘substantive’ might differ from yours.
What sort of trade? What level of name?
The sort of trade, says our best guess, is a swap-back from No. 12 in Thursday’s draft, with Dallas adding a later pick and a player.
Our puzzle-piece wish list has mentioned Denver’s Courtland Sutton, Detroit’s Jameson Williams and Pittsburgh’s George Pickens. … and many in Cowboys Nation were as of Tuesday beating us up for daring to invoke those names,
But now come more puzzle pieces.
Bryan Broaddus, the former Cowboys scout, reflected on 105.3 The Fan on Jerry’s remarks.
And he mentioned league sources who, when asked about “substantive” names, rattled off five guys: Running backs Travis Etienne (Jaguars) and Rachaad White (Tampa Bay), cornerbacks Jalen Ramsey (Miami) and Jaire Alexander (Green Bay) … and …
Jameson Williams and George Pickens.
Well, ain’t that something?
Again, Broaddus isn’t predicting that Dallas is trading for Williams or Pickens or Sutton. He’s simply doing the same exercise we’ve done: Puzzle pieces and how they might fit.
In the end, is a “substantive” trade or two in the offing? Stay tuned …
