Perfect Caleb Williams glowing endorsement will infuriate Packers fans

Anytime the Chicago Bears can notch a win over the Green Bay Packers, it’ll always be a welcome sight for the Windy City.

There was considerable discussion about Pro Football Focus writer John Kosko’s article comparing the ceiling and floor of second-year quarterbacks. For Caleb Williams, Kosko had his ceiling being Jordan Love and his floor being a bust.

This prompted a debate on the FS1 show “First Things First” as commentator Danny Parkins defended Williams. Parkins went as far as to say Love shouldn’t be in the same conversation as Williams.

“How about this: Caleb Williams is already better than Jordan Love. How about that?”

“Here’s the thing about Jordan Love, guy had 11 interceptions in both years he played. Caleb Williams played 17 games last year, had six.”

“Caleb Williams’ offensive coordinator was fired nine games into his rookie year with the worst offensive line in the league, and they fired their head coach three weeks after they fired their offensive coordinator because the head coach didn’t know how to the call timeouts. Jordan Love has Matt Laflur of the Sean McVay tree. He has everything in the world catered to him. Jordan Love, the unbelievable ceiling, had a 63% completion percentage.”

Does Parkins have a point about Williams being better than Love?

Williams had what can be called an up and down rookie season filled with chaos that Parkins discussed. After starting all 17 games, Williams completed 62.5% of his passes for 3,541 yards and 20 touchdowns to six interceptions. He was also sacked 68 times and fumbled 10 times.

The comparison between Williams and Love might be too soon since Williams has only played in the NFL for one year and the two have faced off twice. They are tied in the head-to-head matchup with Williams winning the last match in the final week of the regular season.

Love isn’t facing the kind of pressure that Williams is since Williams is a former number one overall pick. Packers fans are looking for Love to carry the Brett Farve and Aaron Rodgers torch which can be a lot. Chicago’s poor quarterback history has Williams being looked at as the guy that can finally end the misery and become the best signal caller in the franchise’s history.

Williams has all the potential to become one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL, but needs a better supporting cast. The coaching chaos and offensive line struggles of last year are gone, thankfully, in place of Ben Johnson and three new interior offensive linemen.

Things are looking a lot brighter for Williams, but he still has a way to go. This season can go a long way in settling the Williams-Love debate that Bears fans hope will continue for the next decade, because it will mean they at least have their guy.
