The Green Bay Packers and their fans could not be more excited about hosting the 2025 NFL Draft at Lambeau Field.
With the draft set to begin on April 24, the team doesn’t have much longer to make a decision on what they want to do with their first-round pick at No. 23 overall.
Many different predictions have come out about who the Packers could take with that selection. They have ranged from offense to defense, from steals to reaches, and many more potential routes for Brian Gutekunst.
A new prediction has been made that would be an absolute steal for Green Bay. It would also protect them against a potential upcoming roster move.
Green Bay Packers Projected to Land Shocking Steal in 2025 NFL Draft
Dane Brugler of The Athletic has released a new full mock draft that has the Packers snagging Michigan Wolverines’ cornerback Will Johnson with their first-round pick.
He has been projected by many to be a top-10 pick, but has started sliding a bit in recent days.
“I wouldn’t be surprised to see Johnson go as high as No. 11 to the 49ers, but he might still be on the board in the 20s. He declined to run the 40-yard dash at his pro day and the medicals will be a factor for several teams, but the tape shows a really good football player.”
Johnson suffered through a tough 2024 college seaosn. He dealt with a shoulder injury early in the season during the month of September. He then went down with a turf toe injury that ended his year.
He played in just six games, recording 14 tackles, two interceptions, two defensive touchdowns, and three defended passes. In his three-year career at Michigan, Johnson totaled 68 tackles, nine interceptions, three defensive touchdowns, and 10 defended passes.
Being able to land Johnson would help Green Bay in a big way.
Jaire Alexander has been rumored to be on his way out of town. Even if the Packers hold onto Alexander for one more year, Johnson would simply raise the ceiling for the team’s defense.
If he’s available at No. 23, Gutekunst shouldn’t think twice. He should bring him to Green Bay and have a defensive back to build around for years to come.
