The supermodel discussed the revival of the classic film as a guest host on ‘TODAY With Jenna & Friends.’
Tyra Banks has thoughts about the planned remake of the 1992 classic romantic thriller, The Bodyguard.
Her first idea?
Taylor Swift should be cast as the lead. While co-hosting on TODAY With Jenna & Friends, Banks theorized who should take over the starring roles following the precedent set by the late Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner.
“I think Taylor Swift, because business, commerce, art, and she would frickin’ sell like crazy,” quipped the America’s Next Top Model creator.
When asked who should star alongside Swift, Banks kept the interracial romance trope and replied, “But, okay, I’m just gonna be real, I’m a Black girl.
It was Whitney Houston as a Black girl [and] Kevin Costner as a White man. What if we flipped it, and it was Taylor Swift and Idris Elba?”
Jenna Bush Hager immediately cheered, adding, “That is good!” Banks chimed in, “Right?! That would be so hot.”
She’s even going to use her own “friendship” with Elba to try to make it happen. “We’re like WhatsApp friends right now. I’m like, ‘Are you down?’ He’s like, ‘Yeah, Banks.’ I’m like, ‘Okay, I’m gonna make this happen.’ I feel like we should do, like, the romance thing,” she joked.
Bush Hager asked Banks if she’d star in the remake and Banks declared, “Hell no. We need somebody that can really sing.”
Per Deadline, The Bodyguard remake is being produced by Warner Bros. and set to helmed by Sam Wrench, who directed Swift’s Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour film.
The outlet noted, “No casting has been set, but after the [success of Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour], it certainly will be a casting process to watch.”
