The Pittsburgh Steelers have been heavily connected to Aaron Rodgers in recent weeks. While the expectation is that he will end up signing a deal with the team, he has not been in a rush to do so.
On the outside looking in, there are plenty of reasons to think that he will sign with the Steelers.
First and foremost, there is no other great destination for him at this point in time. Secondly, he would have a chance to compete for a Super Bowl and have elite weapons to throw to. Finally, he has flown to Pittsburgh to meet with the team and has had a throwing session with Steelers’ star DK Metcalf.
However, until a deal is signed, nothing can be taken for granted.
Fans are mostly curious why Rodgers hasn’t signed with Pittsburgh. What could he be waiting on?
NFL insider Dianna Russini of The Athletic has revealed a major update about the situation. She also shared why she believes Rodgers is holding out.
“Usually it’s money,” she said. “Financials are always part of it. He does not need to sign and take some cheap deal. He knows the Steelers need him. Do I think he was going to be willing to take less to play for a team that he thinks is a Super Bowl-caliber team, like the Minnesota Vikings? Absolutely. But I think this situation is different. There’s gonna be a number here that’s gonna make Aaron happy. And I just don’t know if Pittsburgh is there yet.”
Rodgers wanting more than one year is understandable. Despite the move making sense, it’s also possible that no team will be willing to offer him that.
At 41 years old, committing to Rodgers for more than one year could be a risky decision.
