The Dallas Cowboys have a new backup quarterback after Cooper Rush left to join the Baltimore Ravens and Trey Lance signed with the Los Angeles Chargers.
Dallas recently traded a fifth-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft to the New England Patriots for quarterback Joe Milton III, a sixth-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
He will now be the Cowboys’ QB2 behind Dak Prescott, and he took to social media to send a message to the team’s fans.
“Shout out Cowboys Nation. It’s Joe Milton, quarterback. I’m happy to be here. Let’s get this ball rolling,” Milton said.

Milton started his college football career at Michigan, and after three seasons there, he transferred to Tennessee.
He became a full-time starter in 2023 and threw for 2,813 yards and 20 touchdowns while adding 299 yards and seven touchdowns on the ground.
With New England, he was the third-string quarterback behind Drake Maye and Jacoby Brissett.
After making some noise during the preseason, he played in Week 18 against the Buffalo Bills and had 241 passing yards, one passing touchdown and one rushing touchdown while completing 75.9 percent of his pass attempts.
Dallas is coming off a very disappointing 2024 campaign, caused partly by the hamstring injury that ended Prescott’s season after eight games.
The Cowboys have multiple roster holes, including at running back and at wide receiver behind CeeDee Lamb, but they do have star power, and they hope they can return to the postseason in 2025.
