Update!! NFL Draft Prediction Has Cowboys Pairing CeeDee Lamb With 4.29 Speed WR

The Dallas Cowboys are in need of some receiver help alongside CeeDee Lamb. Fortunately for them, the 2025 NFL Draft class is loaded with talent at the position, and according to one recent mock, that’s exactly what they will get.

Per CBS Sports, with the No. 12 overall pick, the Dallas Cowboys are predicted to select Texas Longhorns wide receiver and NFL Scouting Combine star Matthew Golden, who ran an event-best 4.29 40-yard dash in Indianapolis.

How Cowboys star receiver CeeDee Lamb is impacted by Justin Jefferson's deal - The Athletic

“CeeDee Lamb is great but he can’t do it all for the Cowboys passing game,” CBS Sports wrote.

“Matthew Golden gives Dallas a speedy, technical wideout who will get open for Dak Prescott.” Golden, of course, has been widely connected to the Cowboys in recent mock drafts, becoming one of the more popular picks for the team outside of Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty and fellow receiver Tetairoa McMillan out of Arizona.

That said, of any receiver in the class, Golden might be the best fit out of the bunch to put alongside an already-established star like Lamb.

Last season with Texas, Golden was a do-it-all talent for the Longhorns, hauling in 58 catches for 987 yards and nine scores, and doing it in various fashions.

Whether it was the vertical passing game or short to intermediate routes, Golden was a reliable and explosive playmaker for quarterback Quinn Ewers.

He also showed an ability to be extremely clutch for Texas, showing up big on multiple occasions throughout the year, particularly against Georgia in the SEC Championship, and Arizona State in the College Football Playoff.

That said, what has scouts truly drooling over Golden, and why he has ascended to the WR1 in the 2025 draft class is due to that blazing 4.29 speed.

Speed and a legitimate vertical threat were arguably the two most glaring weaknesses in the Cowboys receiver room last season.

In fact, Lamb was the only pass catcher on the team with double-digit catches of 20 yards or more, despite being one of the most double-teamed receivers in the NFL in 2024.

Behind him, Jalen Tolbert was the next-best receiver for Dallas, catching just 49 passes for 610 yards in 17 games.

Tolbert did lead the Cowboys in touchdown receptions, however.

And if Golden comes to Dallas, he could not only be a major factor in the downfield passing attack early and often, but he would also help clear things up for Lamb in the process.
