Green Bay Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst holds the 23rd overall pick in the first round of the 2025 NFL draft.
Since taking over as general manager in 2018, Gutekunst has made nine first-round picks — at least one each year and two in both 2019 and 2022. He traded up four times (2018, 2019, 2020, 2023) and twice used trades to acquire an additional first-round pick (trade down in 2018, trading Davante Adams in 2022).

His track record makes clear Gutekunst’s preference for young (21 or 22 years old) and athletic (RAS of 8.0 or above, preferably 9.0 or above) prospects in the first round. Positional value is important (two edge rushers, two cornerbacks, a quarterback and an offensive lineman among the nine) but positions outside the perceived “premium positions” will be considered. Of the nine, seven have been defensive players. At least five were from top collegiate football programs.
Here’s a review of Gutekunst’s picks in the first round over the last seven years:
2018: CB Jaire Alexander, Louisville
Pick: No. 18 overall

Height: 5-10Weight: 196RAS: 9.54Age: 21
Trade up? Yes. Gutekunst first traded down from No. 14 and then traded back up to No. 18 to get Alexander.
Still with team? Yes, for now. The Packers signed Alexander to a record-setting deal in 2022, but he’s missed at least 10 games in three of the last four years and could be traded or released this offseason.
2019: LB Rashan Gary, Michigan
Pick: No. 12 overall
Height: 6-5Weight: 277RAS: 9.95Age: 21
Trade up? No. The Packers held the 12th pick after finishing 6-9-1 in 2018.
Still with team? Yes. Gary became a difference-making player as a full-timer in 2021 and then signed a four-year extension with the Packers in October of 2023.
2019: S Darnell Savage, Maryland
Pick: No. 21 overall

Height: 5-11Weight: 198RAS: 8.35Age: 21
Trade up? Yes. Gutekunst traded a pair of fourth-round picks to move up and get Savage, who was the first defensive back off the board in the 2019 draft.
Still with team? No. Savage played out his five-year rookie deal, including the team-exercised fifth-year option. But he departed as an unrestricted free agent last offseason, signing a multi-year deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
2020: QB Jordan Love, Utah State
Pick: No. 26 overall
Height: 6-4Weight: 219RAS: 8.46Age: 21
Trade up? Yes. Gutekunst sent a fourth-round pick to the Miami Dolphins to move up from No. 30.

Still with team? Yes. Love sat behind Aaron Rodgers for three seasons but took over as the starter in 2023. He signed a lucrative, multi-year contract to lock in his status as the franchise quarterback in Green Bay last offseason.
2021: CB Eric Stokes, Georgia
Pick: No. 29 overall
Height: 6-0Weight: 194RAS: 9.38Age: 22
Trade up? No. Gutekunst stayed put at No. 29 overall.
Still with team? No. The Packers declined Stokes’ fifth-year option, and he left Green Bay to sign a one-year deal with the Las Vegas Raiders this offseason. He played four most disappointing seasons — including two ruined by injury — with the Packers.
2022: LB Quay Walker, Georgia
Pick: No. 22 overall

Height: 6-4Weight: 241RAS: 9.63Age: 21
Trade up? No, but Gutekunst received this draft pick in the trade that sent Davante Adams to the Las Vegas Raiders.
Still with team? Yes. Walker was a starter during each of his first three NFL seasons. The Packers must decide on his fifth-year option this offseason, but the team sounds like they believe he is a long-term foundational piece on defense.
2022: DL Devonte Wyatt, Georgia
Pick: No. 27 overall
Height: 6-3Weight: 304RAS: 9.54Age: 24
Trade up? No. Gutekunst stayed put at No. 28.
Still with team? Yes. Wyatt produced 10.5 sacks over the last two seasons and is going into 2025 expecting to be a top disruptor for the Packers front. Like Walker, the Packers must decide on his fifth-year option this offseason.
2023: Edge rusher Lukas Van Ness, Iowa
Pick: No. 13 overall

Height: 6-5Weight: 272RAS: 9.39Age: 21
Trade up? Yes, technically. The Packers moved up from No. 15 in the trade that sent Aaron Rodgers to the New York Jets.
Still with team? Yes. Van Ness produced 4.0 sacks in a rotational role as a rookie, but he didn’t take a big second-year leap in 2024. He needs to be an impactful third-year player at defensive end in 2025.
2024: Offensive lineman Jordan Morgan, Arizona
Pick: No. 25 overall
Height: 6-5Weight: 311RAS: 9.25Age: 22
Trade up? No. Gutekunst stayed put at No. 25 overall.
Still with team? Yes. Morgan played in six games as a rookie but dealt with three shoulder injuries before needing season-ending surgery. He’ll compete to be the starting left tackle or starting right guard in 2025.
