BREAKING: Derek Jeter Will Return as The Next Manager of The New York Yankees

Derek Jeter Will Return As The Next Manager Of The New York Yankees

The New York Yankees made the World Series in 2024 for the first time since 2009. They would come up short and a 15-year drought of winning a championship will continue.

Despite his recent extension, there should be serious questions regarding Aaron Boone’s job security. Since becoming the Yankee’s manager in 2018, he has only missed the playoffs one time but has also only appeared in one World Series.

Each and every year, it’s championship of bust for the Yankees. Boone has proven that he’s unable to lead the franchise to its ultimate goal. As a result, it’s time to move on from Boone and bring in one of the best minds in baseball, Derek Jeter.

Derek Jeter Will Return as The Manager of The New York Yankees

Derek Jeter’s return would excite fans in a way that shows ownership and the front office it’s not okay to be in the midst of a championship drought. It would bring even more energy into the city than a World Series appearance.

The city simply isn’t happy right now. They lost the World Series and then they lost Juan Soto to the other team in New York. Fans have been clamoring for Boone’s job for a while now, so why not listen and bring back the golden boy of the franchise?

In July 2017, Derek Jeter purchased a share of the Miami Marlins and became the Chief Executive Officer of the team. With only a 4% ownership stake in the franchise, Bruce Sherman, the controlling owner entrusted Jeter with overseeing day-to-day operations.

As of February 2022, Jeter announced that he would no longer serve as CEO and sold his 4% ownership. Without any ties to another team, Jeter is now open to other opportunities in a front office, or perhaps a managerial, role.

Jeter still has a love for the game and apparently wants to still be in the game. He would make a fantastic manager for the Yankees. His excellence as a player was not only his raw ability, but his dedication to his craft and knowledge of the game.

Imagine that dedication to being a manager with the knowledge he already has with baseball strategy — it’s hard to think there would be a manager with a better mind out there.

Aaron Boone Should be Fired

The only person standing in Jeter’s way is Aaron Boone, the Yankees’ current manager, who just signed a two-year extension.

Boone has done a fine job and if he does end up getting fired in the near future, plenty of teams will be quick to pick him up. However, only one World Series appearance (a loss) across seven seasons as the manager is not good enough for the Yankees.

If he was consistently getting to the World Series or even the American League Championship Series, then it may be a different story.

Considering the payroll at the Yankees’ disposal and their ability to go out and get the best talent year in and year out, Boone needs to be able to get his team to not start to fall apart at the end of seasons, especially in October.

It’s particularly frustrating when you see managers with half or even a third of the payroll of the Yankees’ roster leading their teams to World Series rings.

The New York Yankees need to have a short leash with Aaron Boone this year and have Derek Jeter on speed dial. If Boone becomes too much or this team doesn’t come out to play, something needs to change and the easiest and best thing would be to replace Boone with Jeter as manager of the New York Yankees.
