Report: If New England Patriots want to trade Joe Milton, one NFC team could be interested

Joe Milton’s future in New England isn’t clear after the Patriots signed veteran quarterback Josh Dobbs to back up Drake Maye.

Milton played in one game for the Patriots last season and impressed during his limited time on the field finishing 22-of-29 for 241 yards in the Week 18 win over the Buffalo Bills.

But with three quarterbacks on their depth chart, it’s possible the Patriots look to trade Milton. And if they decide to go that route, one NFL insider thinks an NFC team might be interested.

“One team to potentially watch for is the Dallas Cowboys because they are looking for a good backup, a young backup, with upside they may not get in the draft,” ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler said on “NFL Live.” “Maybe they get it in a trade.”

Milton, a 2024 sixth-round pick by New England, flashed his dual-threat capabilities under center that could be intriguing to teams looking to add to their quarterback depth. He also has three more years remaining on his rookie contract.

The Cowboys could benefit from having a suitable backup for Dak Prescott, who was limited to just eight games in 2024 due to a hamstring injury. Cooper Rush, who filled in for the injured Prescott last season, signed with the Baltimore Ravens. Will Grier is still signed by Dallas, but he’s lacking experience.

It’s unclear if the Patriots will want to trade Milton, or if the Cowboys could put together a package New England would find enticing.
