Former Packers QB Aaron Rodgers is ‘pretty sure’ 2025 will be final NFL season

Former Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers said he’s “pretty sure” the 2025 season with the Pittsburgh Steelers will be his final season in the NFL.

Rodgers didn’t hesitate when asked if his 21st NFL season will be his last during an appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show” on Tuesday.

“Yeah, I’m pretty sure this it. That’s why we just did a one-year deal,” Rodgers said. “This was really about finishing with a lot of love and fun and peace for the career that I’ve had…it’s been a long run and I’ve enjoyed it.”

Rodgers, who turns 42 years old in December, signed a one-year deal with the Steelers this month. A first-round pick of the Packers in 2025, Rodgers played 18 seasons in Green Bay and the last two seasons in New York with the Jets.

After considering retirement, Rodgers thinks Pittsburgh is an ideal place to finish his Hall of Fame career.

“What better place to finish than in one of the cornerstone franchises in the NFL with Mike Tomlin and a great group of leadership and great guys and in a city that expects you to win,” Rodgers said.

The Packers face Rodgers in Pittsburgh during a primetime Week 8 showdown this season.

If Rodgers retires from pro football at some point in 2026, he will be eligible for induction into the Hall of Fame in 2031. A player must be retired for five full years before becoming eligible. Rodgers will be a first-ballot Hall of Famer.

Rodgers said he feels no need to “prove anything” but he’s planning to “empty the tank” during his final season in 2025.

“I’m gonna give the Steelers everything I’ve got and empty the tank and be super comfortable and satisfied with whatever happens,” Rodgers said.
