The Los Angeles Dodgers earned a 7-1 victory over the Los Angeles Angels Sunday night, but it wasn’t without some disappointing news.
Manager Dave Roberts provided an update on Dodgers superstar Mookie Betts, who was a late scratch from Sunday’s lineup due to the sickness that sidelined him in Japan.
“I don’t think long-term, I’m not too concerned,” Roberts said. “He’s not going to play tomorrow. As for the home opener, we’ll just take it day by day.
“The recovery hasn’t gone great.”
Betts evidently looked discouraged when he spoke to the media prior to leaving Dodger Stadium early. While he’s been ill for the last few weeks, doctors have not been able to diagnose the cause for his stomach aggravation. He has lost 25 pounds since becoming ill.
“It is what it is,” he said. “Every time I eat something, it comes right out.”
There is speculation Betts could start the season on the injured list if he doesn’t fully recover and regain a sufficient amount of weight.
