The Las Vegas Raiders have been relatively idle this offseason in the first year of new general manager John Spytek’s tenure.
While the team did make a huge splash by trading for quarterback Geno Smith and forking out a record contract extension to defensive end Maxx Crosby, free agency has been a bit quiet for the new regime.
This means that the team lost several key free agents, including Tre’Von Moehrig, Divine Deablo, Nate Hobbs, Robert Spillane and K’Lavon Chaisson, the latter two of which went to the New England Patriots.
On Friday, the Patriots announced that they were poaching a third Raiders starter by signing veteran safety Marcus Epps.
Epps’ deal is for one year and worth up to $4.4 million, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.
He’ll be coming off of a torn ACL that he suffered in Week 3 of last season at Allegiant Stadium against the Carolina Panthers but he is expected to be ready before training camp even begins.
Several other former Raiders either signed or re-signed with the Patriots last week as well, including wide receiver Mack Hollins and tight end Austin Hooper.
There was a time during the Josh McDaniels and Dave Ziegler era that Las Vegas was trying to do things the Patriot Way, and now, it seems the tables have turned.
