The New England Patriots are not done adding to their defensive line. After picking up Milton Williams on a huge four-year deal, they also signed Khyiris Tonga to a relatively modest one-year pact.

Let’s grade it.

Instant grade: Patriots sign Khyiris Tonga to 1-year, $2.7 million deal

Bernd Buchmasser: They can’t all be starters, right? Tonga is a big-bodied DT capable of eating space up front while still offering some pass rush potential. The plan might be for him to help replace Davon Godchaux on certain packages, but he has yet to show he can perform at the same level. | Grade: C

Matt St. Jean: Cheap money for a DT who has been playable with some success in his career. Tonga brings size to the middle after the trade of Godchaux, although he’s brought more as a pass rusher than a run stuffer through four years in the NFL. | Grade: C

Pat Lane: Big body for the middle of the defensive line. Started off his career strong, but hasn’t done much as of late. Could be a rotational piece in the middle for the Patriots this season. | Grade: D+

Tonga is the eighth interior defensive linemen signed for 2025. He is joining the aforementioned Milton Williams as well as Christian Barmore, Keion White, Jeremiah Pharms Jr., Jaquelin Roy, Eric Johnson and Marcus Harris.
