Jerry Jones Has Telling Comments On Cowboys Free Agency Plans

Jerry Jones' free-agency comments could frustrate Cowboys fans | Yardbarker
Last year around this time, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones infamously declared that the team was ready to go “all in” on a Super Bowl run, sparking hopes among fans that the Cowboys would make some big additions in free agency. That obviously did not happen, and Jones isn’t making the same mistake again this year.

Last month, Cowboys executive Stephen Jones said that the team would be “selectively aggressive” in free agency when it came to bolstering their roster.

“We’re going to look at everything we can. We’re going to be selectively aggressive,” Stephen Jones said according to Pro Football Talk. “There are things in this league [you have to consider]. You have a certain amount of resources they allow you to have. We’ll look at that. We’re going to try to improve our football team. Not try. We’re going to improve our football team. We expect to have success next year.”

Jerry Jones, however, painted a very different picture of the team’s free agency strategy.

When asked about the team’s free agency strategy following Zach Martin’s retirement press conference, Jerry Jones had some telling comments about the team’s plans.

“I don’t think aggressive is the right word,” Jerry Jones told reporters via Jon Machota of The Athletic. “I’m not looking at free agency as a place to fill voids.”

Instead, Jerry Jones indicated that the Cowboys plan to address the voids on their roster through the NFL Draft. He also floated the idea of acquiring players through trades, but those discussions clearly have not materialized just yet.

Needless to say, these comments from Jerry Jones did not exactly spark a lot of optimism from Cowboys fans.

“And just like that he destroys any momentum that was building yesterday,” one fan wrote in a post on X.

“The entire point of free agency is to fill voids,” someone else added.

“He does realize they don’t have enough picks to fill the voids on this team right?” someone else remarked.

“Why do they keep thinking that they’re going to hit in the draft every year? They expect a 6th round pick to be NFL ready smh,” another fan wrote.

“So same old same old. Good, let’s see another 7-10 season,” someone else said.

While this might not sit well with Cowboys fans, at least he’s being upfront with fans about his intentions this time.
