Deion Sanders’ name has swirled around the NFL coaching rumor mill ever since the college football season came to a close. The Dallas Cowboys have been the prominent team Sanders, a.k.a. Coach Prime, had been linked to until they filled their head coaching vacancy.
After the Cowboys finished an underwhelming season with a 7-10 record (3rd in the NFC East), Jerry Jones finally parted ways with Mike McCarthy.
And after the whole world attempted to play matchmaker with the Cowboys, Coach Prime, and Shedeur Sanders, the Cowboys decided to hire Brian Schottenheimer as their next head coach.
And despite the Cowboys head coaching position being filled, Coach Prime opted to slam the door shut this week on any possibility that he’ll be coaching in the NFL anytime soon. During the streaming of his TV talk show, “We Got Time Today” on Tuesday, Coach Prime had this to say: “I couldn’t coach pro ball,” Sanders said on his show.
That’s why I say, I couldn’t coach — I know it was cute — but I couldn’t coach pro ball, because the way they practice, the way they go about it, I couldn’t take it. As a man, and as a football enthusiast, and I care about the game.
The game is still providing for Troy and I, so there is no way I could allow that to happen on my watch.
That would be tough.” Wow! It sounds like Coach Prime isn’t leaving the NFL coaching door open even a crack.
We all know things can change in an instant, especially if the team that drafts his son comes knocking, but it appears Coach Prime is content coaching his Colorado Buffaloes to bowl games while striving to win a CFP National Championship, not trying to coach up NFL players.
