The Pittsburgh Steelers once again flamed out in the playoffs after losing four straight games entering the postseason.
That losing streak continued over the weekend with an embarrassing effort in a 28-14 loss to the Baltimore Ravens. As the Steelers turn the page on the 2024 campaign, head coach Mike Tomlin admitted star wide receiver George Pickens has quite a bit of work to do in the offseason.
“There’s certainly, obviously, more room for growth there,” Tomlin told reporters earlier this week. “I think he covered some ground in 2024, but there’s certainly a heck of a lot more ground to be covered and we’ll see where it leaves us.”
As the Steelers prepare for the offseason, they have plenty of work to do ahead of the 2025 NFL draft. A team with plenty of needs, wide receiver might be the most glaring hole on the roster with Pickens the only legitimate option.
Athlon Sports’ Luke Easterling is here to fix that. On Thursday morning Easterling revealed his newest mock draft, with the Steelers selecting Ohio State star wide receiver Emeka Egbuka with the No. 21 pick in the draft.
I wouldn’t be surprised to see an interior defensive lineman here, but the Steelers are still searching for a high-end No. 2 receiver to pair with George Pickens. Egbuka is a polished, pro-ready pass-catcher with elite route-running skills and reliable hands, making him the kind of high-floor presence this passing game needs.
During the 2024 college football season, Egbuka racked up 75 receptions for 947 yards and 10 touchdowns. In the College Football Playoff he’s hauled in 15 receptions for 203 yards and a touchdown.
