WARNING!! Josh Myers surprising injury update may impact Packers’ free agency plans

NFC Wild Card Playoffs: Green Bay Packers v Philadelphia Eagles

Largely lost in all the fallout from the Green Bay Packers’ season-ending Wild Card loss in Philly has been the health of starting center Josh Myers.

Myers went down with what looked like – at the time, at least – a nasty leg injury. He was carted off the field, which is typically not a great sign (although I probably don’t need to tell Packers fans that after this season).

Losing Myers for a year would have been just another major issue to deal with during what figures to be an already-busy Packers offseason, and the team/their fans were holding their breath waiting for a final diagnosis.

We all got that diagnosis this week, and it … looks good? Like, really good? According ESPN’s NFL Insider Jeremey Fowler, Myers avoided all serious injuries and will enter free agency fully healthy.

It sounds like Josh Myers avoided a serious leg injury during Packers’ Wild Card loss

“Packers center Josh Myers is ‘amazingly all good’ after what looked like a severe leg injury suffered Sunday in Philly, per source,” Fowler tweeted on Tuesday morning. “Myers has swelling but no other issues. Set to enter free agency in good shape.”

The good news (besides his health, obviously) is that this makes the Packers’ free agency path a little more clear cut. As heartless as it sounds (and objectively is, tbh), handing him a big ol’ deal on the heels of a major leg injury would have been a tough call for Green Bay.

Even though there’s a not-insignificant chance Myers still leaves in free agency anyways, the Packers can at least take a swing knowing he’d come into training camp fully healthy.

The class of centers in this year’s NFL Draft leave a bit to be desired, so it’s not unreasonable to think that Green Bay is going to back up the truck to keep Myers with the team long-term. Either way, good injury news is always bloggable.
