Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin has finally addressed the rumors that he could be “traded” to another team.

There have been plenty of calls from Steelers nation and NFL pundits for the organization to move on from Mike Tomlin following a disastrous end to the 2024 season. The Steelers dropped their final four regular-season games before falling 28-14 to the archrival Baltimore Ravens in the Wild Card Round.

Per ESPN’s Brooke Pryor, the 52-year-old made it clear that he will not be the subject of a rare blockbuster trade involving a head coach.

“Save your time,” Tomlin said.

With Bill Belichick leaving the New England Patriots last year, Tomlin became the longest-tenured active NFL head coach. Tomlin took over as the Steelers’ head coach in 2007 following the retirement of Hall of Famer Bill Cowher.

The Steelers haven’t had a single losing season under Tomlin, but they also haven’t won a playoff game since the 2016 Divisional Round. Saturday’s loss to Baltimore extended Pittsburgh’s postseason losing streak to six.

“I really don’t know if I have an answer to that. I have a lot going on pregame. I can’t answer that definitively.”pic.twitter.com/x0U4LHMAav

Mike Tomlin has gone 183-107-2 as the Steelers’ head coach, but the 8-11 playoff record certainly leaves a lot to be desired. Since the Steelers’ Super Bowl 43 championship victory in the 2008 season, Tomlin has only won five playoff games.

2025 Could Be Mike Tomlin’s Last Chance With Steelers

The Steelers have been a model of continuity in the Super Bowl era, with Chuck Noll, Bill Cowher and Mike Tomlin serving as the only head coaches dating back to the former’s first season in 1969.

But a proud organization like the Steelers aims for championships, not “non-losing seasons.” The Steelers haven’t played in the AFC title game since 2016, and it’s clear that they’re several steps behind top AFC clubs like Baltimore, Pittsburgh, Buffalo and Houston.

Add it all up, and it feels like the Steelers must win at least one playoff game in 2025 if Tomlin is to have a 20th season in Steel City.
