BALTIMORE — Pittsburgh Steleers quarterback Russell Wilson hopes this is not his final season with the Steelers, but he knows it might be. The 36-year-old Wilson signed a veteran minimum contract, and while he brought sparks early, Wilson flamed out at the end of the season.
So, where does that leave Wilson and the Steelers? Wilson said after the game that he would love to return, and he had a ton of fun in Pittsburgh. However, if he is not back, he believes he still has a lot of football left and would play elsewhere.
“It’s been truly a blessing in my life. It’s been one of the best years for me personally to be a Pittsburgh Steeler,“ Wilson said. ”Obviously, I hope I’m here and everything else. I trust God in wherever that is. You know it’s a special, special place. I know God brought me here for a reason. He gave me so much joy being here. You know, just being around the guys that were around. I love black and gold and what it means to me.”
He will finish with a solid stat line overall. More importantly, he did not turn the ball over in this game, but he continued to take negative plays and miss open reads. With Wilson likely commanding a big deal and only getting older, it seems likely the Steelers would move in a different direction, even if Wilson wants to return. Head coach Mike Tomlin said he had not thought about the quarterback position at large yet, but he was appreciative of Wilson’s efforts.
