The New York Yankees have had a busy offseason thus far after losing the World Series to the Los Angeles Dodgers.
After watching outfielder Juan Soto leave to sign with the New York Mets, the Yankees have acquired several other key players to improve their roster for the 2025 season.
These players include starting pitcher Max Fried, outfielder Cody Bellinger and first baseman Paul Goldschmidt.
Along with these players, the Yankees also acquired their likely closer for the upcoming season, Devin Williams, and manager Aaron Boone recently revealed how long he’s wanted Williams on his team.
“I’ve been beatin’ that drum for a couple years tryin’ to get him over here to help us close out games,” Boone said, via MLB Network.

The Yankees acquired Williams in a trade with the Milwaukee Brewers, where he played all six seasons of his MLB career.
The shutdown relief pitcher has had a sub-2.00 ERA four times, including last season.
In 2024, Williams appeared in 22 games and was 1-0 with 14 saves, a 1.25 ERA and 38 strikeouts in 21.2 innings pitched.
Boone hopes that Williams will come in and have similar success for the Yankees.
Although Williams has been dominant in the regular season, he did struggle in the postseason for the Brewers.
Williams threw 1.2 innings in the 2024 playoffs and allowed three hits, four earned runs, one home run and one walk, which gave him an ERA of 21.60.
