“He Would?!” Packers Learn Of Elite Weapon Who Wants To Play With Jordan Love

If the Green Bay Packers are looking to add an electrifying playmaking wide receiver to quarterback Jordan Love’s supporting cast, general manager Brian Gutekunst may be able to turn to a familiar face to boost the offense.

New York Jets wide receiver Allen Lazard (10) takes care of Los Angeles Rams cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon (4) as New York Jets wide receiver Davante Adams (17) continues with the ball after completing a pass for a first down in the second quarter, Sunday, December 22, 2024, in East Rutherford.

Former Packers All-Pro wide receiver Davante Adams is coming off and could be looking for a new home this offseason.

Friday, in an appearance on the Up and Adams show, Adams didn’t just crack open a possible Packers reunion, he practically kicked down the door.

“You know, you can’t rule anything out,” the Jets wide receiver said when Kay Adams asked if he would consider taking a phone call from “a team that rhymes with Smackers.”

The three-time First-Team All-Pro caught 85 passes this season, for the Las Vegas raiders and Jets, producing 1,063 receiving yards while pulling down eight touchdowns. As the Packers prepare to play the Eagles in the NFC Wild Card Playoffs on Sunday afternoon, Adams suggests he’s open to a Green Bay return this offseason.

“I’ve got a lot of love for all the organizations I’ve played for,” he said. “I wouldn’t rule out anybody. Obviously, I think there’s some saltiness from some of the fanbases I’ve been with, because of not understanding what I was going through, and the decision I made for the sake of my own career that seemed to hurt everybody.

“I’m keeping my mind open to anybody. The Packers are a great team, and if they felt like that was a possibility for me, like I said, I’m still with the Jets, I can’t be out here talking about other teams. It’s going to be a different offseason. Talking about potential landing spots is a little different this time, but definitely keeping an open mind.”

How Could the Packers Bring Back Davante Adams?

Adams still has two years remaining on his contract with the Jets, but New York does have an out this offseason, should the organization prefer a tear down or to just get out from underneath the veteran receiver’s $38.34 million cap hit.

Should the Jets release Adams before June 1, the move would trigger a $8.36 million dead-money charge next season but create $29.97 million in cap space.

However, the Jets can designate Adams a June 1 release which would reduce his dead-money charge to just $2.09 million while creating $36.25 million in spending flexibility.

If Adams becomes available, it will be fascinating to see if the Packers add the veteran playmaker into Love’s young supporting cast of targets.
