San Francisco 49ers Sign Former Packers Pass Rusher

The San Francisco 49ers are signing former Green Bay Packers defensive end Jonathan Garvin to a reserve/futures contract on Monday.

Garvin, 25, was originally chosen by the Packers in the seventh round of the 2020 NFL Draft and spent his first three seasons in Green Bay where he produced 32 total tackles with 1.5 sacks in 38 games.

Following his time with the Packers, Garvin spent the 2024 campaign with the UFL’s Birmingham Stallions. Garvin was joined by former UFL alum, offensive lineman Zack Johnson, as another futures contract signee with the 49ers on Monday afternoon.

The 49ers finished last season as the league’s No. 3  passing defense, while posting just 37 sacks. San Francisco could look at Garvin’s upside and believe that he can carve out a niche over the course of this offseason and into next summer’s training camp as a disruptive pass rusher.
