UPDATE: Derek Jeter Will Return as the Next Manager of the New York Yankees

Derek Jeter Will Return as the Next Manager of the New York YankeesThe New York Yankees made the World Series in 2024 for the first time since 2009. A 15 year drought of winning a championship will continue and the question becomes how much long will Aaron Boone hold down his position. Since becoming the Manager in 2018 he has only missed the playoffs one time but also only appeared in one World Series where they ended up losing. The New York Yankees are Championship or bust and it’s time to move on from Aaron Boone and bring in one of the best minds in baseball, Derek Jeter.

Derek Jeters Return

Derek Jeter’s Return would excite fans in a way that shows ownership and the front office is not okay with a drought of a championship win. It would bring even more energy into the city than a World Series appearance. The city isn’t happy right now. They lost the world series and then they lost Juan Soto to the other team in New York. Fans have been clamoring for Boones job for a while now so why not listen and bring back the golden boy of Yankees history.

In July or 2017, Derek Jeter purchased the Miami Marlins and became the Chief Executive Officer of the team. With only a 4% ownership stake in the franchise, Bruce Sherman, the controlling owner entrusted Jeter with overseeing day to day operations. As of February 28, Jeter announced that he would no longer serve as CEO and sold his 4% ownership. Without any ties to another team Jeter is now open to other opportunities with another team.

Derek Jeter still has a love for the game and apparently wants to still be in the game. Derek Jeter would make a fantastic Manager for the New York Yankees. His excellence as a player was not his raw ability but his dedication to his craft and knowledge of the game. Imagine that dedication to being a Manager with his knowledge he already has with baseball strategy, it be hard to think there would be a manager with a better mind out there.

Aaron Boone Should be Fired

Aaron Boone has done a fine job in the standard of the New York Yankees and if he does end up getting fired this 2025 MLB season, plenty of teams will be quick to pick him up. Only one world series appearance and it being a loss over 7 seasons as the manager is not good enough for the Yankees. If he was consistently getting to the World Series or even the American League Championship Series, then it may be a different story.

With the Payroll the Yankees have and the ability to go out and get the best year in and year out, Aaron Boone needs to be able to get his team to not start to fall apart at the end of seasons, especially in October. Especially when you see Managers with half or even a third of the payroll of the Yankees Roster making it or winning it all.

The New York Yankees need to have a short leash with Aaron Boone this year, and have Derek Jeter on speed dial. If Boone becomes too much or this team doesn’t come out to play, something needs to change and the easiest and best thing would be to replace Aaron Boone with Derek Jeter as Manager of the New York Yankees.
