Xavier McKinney played sensational again for the Green Bay Packers but the results did not go his team’s way as their attempt for a comeback came up short again versus the Chicago Bears in Week 18.
His team entered the last three weeks of the National Football League regular season with so much optimism but after losing all those three games, fans can’t help but question their readiness for the playoffs where they are set to face the Philadelphia Eagles.
The team started from staring at a fifth place seeding but they now find themselves at no. 7 in the National Football Conference after losing back-to-back to the Minnesota Vikings and the Bears.
Will they ready be read for the Eagles? They have no choice.
There’s a lot to be done though according to McKinney.
“Everything,” he said when asked in the locker room about what needs to change for the Packers heading into the playoffs next week.
“It is what it is. Same stuff every week. I think it’s the guys individually, everybody has to look at themselves and say, ‘Ok, what do we want to do? How far do we want to take it?’”
Xavier McKinney’s performance against the Bears
The effort was there for the Packers but their slow start made things hard for them.
Not McKinney tho. The Packers safety was at the top of his game against the Bears right from the start.
The 36-year-old defender made an interception against the Bears, his eighth of the 2024 season.
Defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley said before that McKinney just keeps on improving and the defender proved him correct.
“The cool part is, I’m just telling you, he’s getting better and better,” Hafley said on Thursday. “And he’s young. I don’t even think we’ve seen what’s ahead for him, and I mean that.”
The Packers will continue to lean on his brilliance. His anticipation for the opponents’ play will be huge, especially against a team like the Eagles.
