The New England Patriots didn’t show any signs of improvement this season.
If anything, they regressed.
Of course, Drake Maye was exciting to watch, and he looks like the kind of quarterback prospect they could and should look to develop and build their team around.
As for Jerod Mayo, there haven’t been many positive reports.
That’s why the Patriots should at least consider some of the other potential options.
According to a report by Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, Ben Johnson could be interested in their head coaching position.
Johnson was one of the most coveted assistant coaches in the league last season, but he chose to stay with the Detroit Lions.
Now, he’s fully expected to be atop multiple teams’ wish lists again during this hiring process.
He looks like a much more competent option to develop their young quarterback.
Even so, reports state that Robert Kraft’s relationship with Mayo is great, and he’s looking forward to giving him another opportunity to prove himself in charge of the team.
Needless to say, that could be a decision they could regret.
Former Patriot Mike Vrabel is also reportedly interested in returning to Foxborough and taking the reins of the team.
So, even if they still trust Mayo, passing on two prime head coaching candidates in hopes that he will turn things around is a risky decision, to say the least.
For now, however, it doesn’t sound like his job is in jeopardy by any means.
