Former Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers is near the end of the worst season of his career. In fact, he may be near the end of his NFL playing career in general. With one game remaining in the 2024 season, Rodgers has completed 63.0% of his passes for 3,623 yards, 24 touchdowns, 10 interceptions, and an 89.1 passer rating. At 4-12, the New York Jets have long been eliminated from the NFL Playoffs, extending the longest current postseason drought in all major professional sports (14 seasons).
To add insult to injury, the NFL just levied a five-figure fine on the four-time NFL MVP for one of the most ridiculous penalties that has been called by officials this season.
Former Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers Fined for Unnecessary Roughness
During New York’s last game, a 40-14 blowout loss to the Buffalo Bills, Rodgers threw his ninth and tenth interceptions of the season, marking just the fourth time in his illustrious career that he has thrown at least ten picks.
One one of these plays, Rodgers made light contact with the Bills’ defender that intercepted his pass while that defender was out of bounds. The officials on the field flagged him for unnecessary roughness, a 15-yard penalty.
On Saturday, the NFL announced that they were fining the future Pro Football Hall of Famer $11,255 for the “hit.”

One would have to assume that Rodgers will appeal the fine, and based on how light the contact was, he should win his appeal.
Interestingly, the NFL officer in charge of handing out fines is none other than Packers Hall of Famer and former Rodgers teammate Jordy Nelson.
Fans React to Aaron Rodgers Getting Fined by the NFL
Based on how light the “late hit” was and who the NFL officer was who issued the fine, Packers and NFL fans had a feel day with the news:
I wonder what that phone call to jordy Nelson was like after Aaron got the fine notice. https://t.co/ERm3Q7ysK3
