The winner of the American League Manager of the Year award was announced on Tuesday in a live broadcast on MLB Network.
Cleveland Guardians skipper Stephen Vogt got 27 of the 30 first-place votes and bested fellow finalists AJ Hinch (Detroit Tigers) and Matt Quatraro (Kansas City Royals) for the prestigious award.
Despite leading the New York Yankees to an American League-best 94 wins, Aaron Boone wasn’t among the three finalists.
Voters considered that he had too much talent on his roster and thus their collective record is more of a reflection of that rather than the skipper’s talent.
That is actually true, but managing a top team full of egos and crazy-high expectations from fans is never easy.
Boone finished fifth.
“Aaron Boone placed 5th in 2024 AL Manager of the Year voting, receiving a single second-place vote,” SNY Yankees posted on X.

The 2024 Yankees were a powerhouse in the first half, had a dip in performance in June and July and then rebounded again in August and September.
The team was somewhat inconsistent, but managed to win the AL East title and topped the junior circuit with 94 victories against just 68 losses.
The Yankees also had the second-best run differential in baseball at +147.
Boone’s calming presence and willingness to stand up for his players (sometimes to a baffling degree) are positive attributes that deserve recognition.
Boone is constantly under fire and makes some questionable decisions, but the Yankees had a positive year overall and he was at the front of it all.
He didn’t deserve to win but should have ranked higher than fifth.
